Howdy!
The complete first season of Maverick is now officially on DVD and the glowing reviews are rolling in. For example, the "DVD Talk" website gives the set a "Highly Recommended" rating, along with an outstanding review that not only features photos of Jack Kelly and James Garner, but also mentions JK very favorably. :)
And, a little bird told me that Linda J. Alexander, author of the wonderful A Maverick Life - The Jack Kelly Story, will discuss the book and its subject on "TV Confidential", an online radio program about television hosted by Ed Robertson. Should be fun, as Mr. Robertson also authored a book about the Maverick TV series. Click here for the show's blog, which includes schedule information and even some cool videos showcasing JK. Enjoy!
This review, written by someone named Paul Mavis, is the best article about the series I've ever seen that I didn't write myself. I disagree with him on a couple of points, and he doesn't mention the real linchpin of the show, which is Garner and Kelly's uniquely phenomenal chemistry, but his observations about Diane Brewster are wonderful (it's about time somebody rhapsodized about her incredibly blazing appeal). I believe he's wrong about Garner resenting Kelly joining the series, Garner actually seemed to have welcomed it, and about the show vastly improving in the second season (many of the very best episodes are in the first, like "According to Hoyle" and "Stampede," among many others), but it's a great, insightful read and the photos are also fantastic.
