Kathleen Crowley

 

1929-2017

 

 

Ms. Crowley, who appeared in eight episodes of Maverick (five with Jack Kelly), passed away at age 87 on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at her home in Green Bank, NJ (which was also her birthplace). After a career in films and television, Ms. Crowley married in 1969 and retired in the early 1970's to raise her son.  Her obituary in the Hollywood Reporter revealed that "She later became the bridgetender (the person that opens and closes the span to accommodate waterway traffic) for the Green Bank New Road Bridge..."

In 1961, Ms. Crowley described what it was like working with JK on the "Dade City Dodge" episode of Maverick: "Working with a professional like Jack is a real pleasure...It doesn't seem like there's been almost four years between my two Maverick shows. [First show was "The Jeweled Gun" in 1957.] And the rehearsals for this one went just as smooth as the other; you'd think we were on-camera instead of just running through the lines and action."

 

Rest in peace, Ms. Crowley.

JK Code 98! :)

Hola!

Here's another goodie from the wide wide world of Kellectibles. Not a fotobusta this time, but a lobby card from Mexico:

The film being advertised is, of course, 1963's FBI Code 98, which starred Jack Kelly and just about every actor under contract at Warner Bros at the time, including a bunch who'd appeared with JK in Maverick (e.g. Kathleen Crowley, Andrew Duggan, and Ray Danton, to name just a few).  Phil Carey (in the lower right corner) had previously acted with JK in They Rode West (coming to TCM on 7/26 at 2:15 am ET, BTW!). JK later joined PC in two episodes of Laredo and the Bob Hope special Shoot-In at NBC.

It's been difficult to catch Maverick since it was exiled to the early morning slot on Encore Westerns. But, if you can catch it, the episode on tomorrow (Monday) is one of my personal favorites, "The Jeweled Gun".

Jack Kelly's co-star is Kathleen Crowley, who would re-team with JK in several more Maverick episodes. I found a nice story about Ms. Crowley from 1961, when she was filming "Dade City Dodge" with JK.

Howdy! The first Maverick being shown tomorrow evening on Encore Westerns is one of my favorite episodes, "The Jeweled Gun".
