Remembering Jack Kelly--That Maverick Actor and More
Howdy! A bunch of memorabilia from Jack Kelly's 1954 feature film Drive A Crooked Road has trickled into the Kellection lately, includi...
Kathleen Crowley, a kind of modern Mae West, played the leading lady on more "Maverick" episodes than anyone else and deservedly so. She was absolutely incendiary and was the female guest lead on countless other TV shows as well but seldom got a movie part. She's completely forgotten today. I wonder if some really fine actors won't experience a rebirth we can't now foresee as a result of future technology making these episodes available to everyone on wall-sized (or building-sized) high definition screens or perhaps even eventually converted into holograms? I'll definitely take a Kathleen Crowley hologram while you ladies enjoy a Jack Kelly one. Don't think I'll actually live to see that but you might since women tend to live decades longer.
ReplyDeleteI remember Jack Kelly with great fondness. For a long time I thought he had no fan following until I accidentally stumbled upon the "Maverick Life" group of Jack Kelly fans on Facebook. You can imagine my happiness at learning that Jack did have and still has fans, and it was through them that I finally got to learn about Jack Kelly the actor, the father, and the politician. His role as Bart Maverick is forever etched in my mind, as is James Garner's star-making part as Bret Maverick. The best episodes of that show were the ones that had both Garner and Kelly in them. They were ying and yang, those two, and it's a shame that they weren't paired more often in Maverick. :D
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, I too remember Kathleen Crowley. :)
