Jack Kelly Japanese Style :)

Hello!

We've seen Jack Kelly featured in Japanese magazines here, here and here in TDS.

Now, let's have a look at JK (and James Garner & Robert Colbert) from the pages of yet another Japanese periodical. Nearly all of this 1961 magazine was devoted to the Old West and to US TV westerns such as Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Bronco, Rawhide and of course Maverick

As we say sayonara to today's post, please stay tuned for more fun with JK from the pages of the past, including a 1950's scrapbook all the way from the UK and a couple of other interesting books recently added to the Kellection. :)

A Kelly Called Carol :)

Happy Monday!

Usually, when we see a photo of Jack Kelly and his sister, that sister is his older sibling, Nancy.

Well, here's a pic of JK with his younger sister, Carol (a.k.a. Karolee or Carolee), from a Japanese movie magazine:

Carol played minor roles in films and on TV during the 1950's and 1960's. Big brother Jack seems to be looking askance at Carol's skimpy costume, or maybe he's just pointing out a run in her hose. ;>

I think this is the first photo I've seen of JK and CK together as adults. The magazine in which the pic was printed is dated 1962, but the photo itself probably dates to 1959, when Carol played a stripper named "Fay Dawn" in "Girl In Trouble", an episode of the Warner Bros. detective series Bourbon Street Beat.

When "Girl In Trouble" was rerun in the summer of 1960, Carol told a newspaper reporter that JK visited her on the set. And, she revealed it was actually rather nerve-wracking to have Bart Maverick on Bourbon Street:

What a fun backstage peek at the Kelly clan!

Incidentally, another look at JK and Maverick from Japan will be featured in TDS very soon, so please stay tuned. :)

Kelly's Green! :)

Top O' the morning to you! :)

I recently found a wonderful photo story featuring Jack Kelly and his then-wife Donna (May Wynn) in a Japanese publication from 1961. For some reason, the photos are tinted green, as are many other pictures in this particular magazine. But, that's okay, because it's Saint Patrick's Day, and the pix fit right in here at TDS.

Naturally, the text is mostly in Japanese. However, as the caption below states, these are photos of JK at home:

I've seen photos of JK playing the guitar before, but I think this is the first time I've seen Donna accompanying him on the maracas. And check out the expression on JK's face--he looks like a little kid. :)

Here's JK and DK playing with one of their poodles:

And, here's JK working some of that Bart Maverick poker magic at the kitchen card table:

Finally, we have the Kellys collaborating on a writing project (it's a little hard to see, but there's a photo of JK posed as Bart by Donna's head):

But, wait! Here's a bonus photo from the same magazine:

Yes, it's Bart in full-color, with his brother Brent (Robert Colbert) and cousin Beau (Roger Moore). Bart seems to be saying to Brent, "Can you believe they put Beau instead of me on the cover of the 4th season Maverick DVDs?" (And, Brent is probably thinking, "What's a DVD?") ;-)

Have a great St. Paddy's day! :)
