A Bird in the Hand :)

Hello Everyone,

I know we all pray and hope that the COVID-19 pandemic would just disappear--now. And, it will fade away, eventually.

As a respite for now, here's Jack Kelly and Ann Blyth in a publicity still for the 1952 film Sally and Saint Anne:

It appears that JK as amateur magician "Mike O'Moyne" thinks he made a dove disappear from his hat. But, what's that in sister Sally's hand? ;)

Well, please stay tuned for more JK magic in TDS--and stay well.

Jack and Sally Together Again! :)

Happy Saint Patrick's Day Everyone!

In honor of St. Paddy's day, TDS presents another bit of ephemera from Jack Kelly's 1952 film, Sally and Saint Anne, a comedy about the O'Moynes, a wacky but loveable Irish-American family:

This rare window card isn't in the best shape. It's browned and faded with age (it's 65 years old). It's also badly creased in spots. And poor Grandpa O'Moyne  (Edmund Gwenn) has a hole in his nightshirt! But, the graphics are still colorful and, of course, JK is up there in the family portrait.

Below is a close-up of JK as muddling magician "Mike O'Moyne" beside his mother (played by Frances "Aunt Bee" Bavier, complete with rolling pin):

Much more about Sally can be found here and here.

And, radio station WJCU is again streaming 18 hours of authentic Irish music, starting at 6:00 am ET this morning (3/17) and ending at midnight. The link to listen is here. Enjoy!

Please stay tuned for more movie memories with JK and TDS.

Sally and Some Fotobustas! :)

Ciao!

Here's another look at Sally and Saint Anne--with an Italian accent! :)

The title SALLY... e i parenti picchiatelli on these vintage fotobustas (Italian lobby cards) roughly translates into English as Sally and Her Crackpot Relatives. And, the "cards" are actually more like posters since they're huge and printed on thin, fragile paper, which made it a challenge to handle and photograph them.

The fotobustas range in condition from fair to fairly terrible. However, they're an incredible find in any shape. And sometimes, it's not only the subject matter that's important in movie memorabilia, it's the preservation factor, as well. This ragged bit of JK ephemera will have a safe place in the Kellection.

Now, back to Jack! He appears on all four fotobustas. I hadn't seen three of these images and none of them in color before.

First, here's JK as bird-brained magician Mike O'Moyne with his sister, Sally (Ann Blyth):

Next, a wide-eyed Mike (dig that crazy tie!) and a smiling Sally:

The gang's all here with yet another variation on the cast photo:

How about a close-up of jovial JK:

Finally, Mike seems to be daydreaming as he and Sally watch their boxer brother Danny (Hugh O'Brian) spar with his manager (King Donovan):

One more close-up of that dreamy JK:

Have a wonderful Wednesday and stay tuned for more fun with fotobustas! :)

Because here's a pic of Jack Kelly

With a dove on his head:

(That's JK with Ann Blyth in Sally and Saint Anne.)
